The shop bears my name because I am personally invested in delivering the best possible online shopping option for those who want to ensure that their loved ones in the Philippines receive delightful, smile-inducing surprise packages on time and of the highest quality, while you save money with our affordable service.

My story
After building a career as the manager of a children’s party hosting service for Storyland Amusement Center in Manila’s famed Mall of Asia, I moved to the United States in 2010 to work in the healthcare industry and pursue a career in nursing (so Filipina, right?).

As much as I love living in this land of opportunity, I have missed my parents, sisters, and brothers back in the Philippines. If you are a kababayan, you also know how difficult it is to be so far away from our families and beautiful homeland. While the challenges of separation from family are not unique to people from the Philippines, our culture of staying connected to loved ones through gift giving is notable and exemplified by the sending of balikbayan gift boxes and surprises of flowers, meals, groceries and treats for birthdays and holidays.

My experience

With your family thousands of miles away, the delivery of a great surprise can be challenging. Will it arrive on time? Will the order be correct? Will the items be fresh and high quality? Will the delivery person be professional and courteous?

Unfortunately, most websites offering delivery of flowers, food, and grocery packages to the Philippines are cluttered, confusing, and impersonal. I have taken my chances with them and often wound up disappointed.

In 2018, for example, I decided to surprise my mom on Mother’s Day, and had an experience that initiated my journey that led to Dorizshop.

On that occasion, the delivery service representative promised that I’d receive proof of delivery in the form of photos of my mom receiving the package. It never happened. I was promised on-time delivery, but that didn’t happen. And that’s not all: the chocolates I ordered never arrived and the cake was severely damaged (see photo). My sister let me know that my mom appreciated the surprise—but she didn’t eat the cake.

I was so frustrated with that experience that I eventually took a second job in a managerial position for a prominent online shopping site, helping them improve their service.

Why I started Dorizshop

After three years in online shopping management, I realized that to fully implement my vision of easy and reliable online shopping that delivered the kinds of experiences that I want for my own family, I needed to start my own company—one that held its staff to the highest standards, provided affordable pricing, on-time delivery and personalized service. That was how Dorizshop was born.
